E-commerce websites. What do we measure?

Every business has its own goals and objectives that they strive to accomplish. In my previous blog I wrote about nonprofit organizations websites, their goals and how they can measure those goals and objectives. Websites of non-profit organizations have very different goals than E-commerce websites and therefore they need to measure different variables. E-commerce websites are websites that allow customers to buy services or products online and their main objective is to increase sales of their products or services. In order to track a website performance, collect customer data and monitor conversion rates, Google Analytics tracking code should be installed into each page of the website.

E-commerce websites can measure how many products or services were sold in a specific time frame. We can see what products are most popular and what products are slow to sell. We can also see volume of the products bought by different customers.  In addition, we can see what sources bring most of the traffic to our website. Geographic location of our customers is also available in GA reports; we can find what country or city the majority of our customers reside in. We can also measure the bounce rate of the website and the amount of time that people spend browsing our website. Additionally, we can see how many new users visit the website, purchase our products and what devise they used (IPhone, Mac or others).
